The Hundreds New York turned 1 and we celebrated with a friends & family party at the store Friday night. Here are some of BAIK’s photos of the festivities…

One of the best art galleries in New York stands perched high a nondescript Chelsea building. Unassuming, easy-to-miss, but always holding some of the greatest treasures the art movement has to offer. The Jonathan LeVine Gallery.
Their current exhibition, The Art Army Royalty, is no exception. The show features the work of Seattle artist Michael Leavitt, whereby he satirizes over twenty living “celebrity” artists by hand-sculpting action figures of them out of polymer clay. He chose action figures as the medium because of the idolization of these individuals and he’s made it very clear that he’s not necessarily a fan of all of these people. He also drives home the point that if you know who some of these characters are, then you’re included in the “art world.” But the majority of the mainstream has no clue as to who these artists are. It’s an interesting analysis and commentary on the art scene, art collectors, and artists as a whole…
See if you can recognize some of the figures, morphed into their own signature work.

Jasper Johns:

Jeff Koons:

David Hockney:

Cy Twombly (one of the two “living” artists in the show who passed during the lead-up) RIP

My favorite is Kara Walker’s. Not only is she one of the awesomest artists ever in the history of the world of the universe, but the paper-thin silhouette is perfect execution.

I’m sure at least some of you guys know this one. Takashi Murakami.

But a lot more of you should know and love this one. Yoshitomo Nara.

Damien Hirst.

Julian Schnabel.

Ed Ruscha.

James Turrell.

and Barbara Kruger. I like how she’s done in grayscale to match her work.
And p.s. this Kruger is now property of The Hundreds is Huge, Inc. #humblebrag #justsayin

Been a decade and a half since I’ve seen ‘em last. DESCENDENTS tonight, at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City:

Directly across from The Hundreds New York on Grand Street is the new VANS x DQM shop, The General.

The store is finely detailed and furnished to fit a vintage Americana look, and seamlessly fusing it with VANS’ casual California aesthetic and DQM’s New York City skate and sneaker culture background. In theory, sounds like it wouldn’t make much sense, but once you’re in the store it all comes together legitimately.

Aside from taxidermy (which is always a good idea), The General’s accented with archival VANS relics, which again lends to the overall vibe. If you’re in the New York area, visit The General at 93 Grand Street in SoHo.

We’re in New York, and headed up to Brooklyn tonight.

We’re standing atop Tim McGurr’s spot – also known as 13th Witness.

The New York skyline at dusk is something to behold…

13th Witness, as you well know, is a world-renowned photographer. If you’re on Instagram, his is easily the #1 account to follow if you enjoy looking at beautiful imagery all day long (@13thwitness).

Timmy’s sister Tabatha writes the MOB blog. She’s one of my favorite young writers out there; hers is one of the few blogs I actively check.

Tim invited us all to his pad tonight to partake in a BBQ by he and his friend John. We watched the Yankees game, watched Snooki show her private parts on Jersey Shore, talked about Hugh Jackman’s stupid fighting robot movie and how he does that jumping uppercut at the end of the trailer, Marlon had a baby, REVOK’s thoughts on Fab 5 Freddy, and how someone in this room has 3 pairs of the Back to the Future Nike MAGs (not it), all around trays of shrimp, sirloin steak, hamburgers, ribs, and sausage. Follow that up with pie, Oreos, almond cookies, and watermelon. (And end the night with TUMS).
From left to right, Ashley the Cilantro Killer, Futura, Sammy da Joo, Vlad (VANS), NA (Deadline/THNY), Ben Hundreds, and 13th Witness.

And don’t forget Mike Malbon (Frank’s Chop Shop).

Anyways, the piranhas were a fitting metaphor. Buncha dudes eating, drinking, and smoking like deranged beasts all night long…

V magazine recently threw a lavish party at The Standard Hotel for the release of their latest issue, The Heroes Issue. The Black and White Ball, honoring both Mario Testino and Carine Roitfeld as well as all of the people who helped to make our September issue (V73 The Heroes Issue) happen—including the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor, who graced the crowd with her presence in the form of a giant, glistening ice sculpture, depicting her infamous beach scene from Tennessee Williams’sSuddenly Last Summer. V magazine released some photos and a video of the event which also partnered with Magnum ice cream to give a look at the event. After watching the video I seriously wished I was in attendance. Also you might notice in the video, Lindsay Lohan has something splashes all over her. Well if you didn’t know, Lindsay has been apart of all the gossip during New York Fashion Week because allegedly Lindsay has accomplished at sneaking her way into some parties, causing drama between celebs such as Mary-Kate Olsen and Dakota Fanning, and of course she leaves her mark by apparently throwing some drinks on some photographers and guests. Attendees included Sky Ferreira, Carine Roitfeld, Rachel Zoe, Alexander Wang, Courtney Love, Lady Bunny, Lindsay Lohan, Nicola Formechetti, Mario Testino, Crystal Renn, and many more. Also from the video we can see that everyone seems to enjoy the Magnum ice cream very very much. Enjoy!

Currently Rihanna sits on top of the world as one of the “it” girls in the music industry. After the release of her album Loud, Rihanna released several songs as singles and all of the songs skyrocketed to the top of the charts. Rihanna is still the only artist with the most number one songs on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart by the way. Now Rihanna is back once again, but this time she isn’t releasing another single off her album Loud, but rather she is releasing a new single off her new album which is due to release November 21st! Yes that’s right! New Rihanna album on it’s way before you know it! For now Rihanna has released a new single titled ‘We Found Love’ which features Calvin Harris. The song is fresh and fun and sets up a great outlook on what the album may be like. You can purchase the song on iTunes HERE! Enjoy!

Today’s most controversial rookie rapper is no doubt little miss Kreayshawn. Kreayshawn climbed her way to subtle fame when her single Gucci Gucci dropped and become a national sensation. Soon after Kreayshawn could be found almost everywhere in her industry and even got nominated for Best New Artist at the 2011 MTV VMA’s. Now Kreayshawn can be found on the cover of Complex magazine’s October/November issue baring almost everything. In the magazine you’ll be able to hear about how this girl rose from the depths of Youtube to getting a million dollar record deal. Natasha from Oakland is her past and now she’s here to stay and with the amount of “swag” this girl has there’s no doubt she’s sticking around. Check out the interview here and check out the photo spread along with a behind-the-scenes look at the photoshoot after the jump!

Finishing up Lady Gaga’s 3-part video series is the last installment of the Yoü and I music videos, and this time around the one being featured is Yüyi the mermaid. If you’ve seen the music video for Lady Gaga’s latest single Yoü and I, then I’m sure you didn’t miss the mermaid splashing around in a barn. As we’ve come to expect, theatrics play a major role in the short clip as Gaga assumes the role of a smoking mermaid, literally. It’s another simple approach but with all the Gaga-esque stuff going on it really becomes original. Enjoy!
And they said it couldn’t be done. A year ago, The Hundreds stepped foot in New York City with the opening of our first East Coast store presence at 96 Grand Street. This Friday, we’re releasing this limited Badam t-shirt to celebrate one year in NY and to thank the city for all the support. The Badam NY tee will be sold exclusively at THNY, September 23rd, at 11am…

During London Fashion Week, a collection seemed to completely redefine itself as a brand. Acne, the once labeled high end streetwear brand is changing many peoples minds about what to consider it as some have now claimed its moving directly into the high-fashion world. The Spring/Summer 2012 collection was full of inspiration from Acne’s head designer Jonny Johansson’s recent vacation to Marrakech, Morocco. After the show, Jonny explains that when he went to Morocco bored in advance of all the fashion clichés the place had birthed, and left with the unhappy feeling that he, too, had been influenced. That ambivalence made him work extra-hard, apparently, to reconsider the city, and interpret its colors and attitude in a way that felt relevant and urbane. There’s a real sense of the Moroccan culture with in the clothes, as you’ll see in some pieces that you can check out after the jump, with the soft earth tones and textures. You can check out some images from the Acne show after the jump. Enjoy!

As part of Jay-Z’s website which focuses on all things hip-hop, fashion, music news, and entertainment; Jay’Z's website Life + Times has decided to create a video of some of New York Fashion Week’s models lip-syncing to Jay-Z’s hit song Empire State of Mind. It’s a fun little video to check out and see if you can identify any of these ladies. Enjoy the ode to New York City!
There’ve been rumblings (and grumblings) about this store for weeks. Apparently this shop DOPE COUTURE was opening on Fairfax and the neighborhood was a little confused. DOPE Couture is a well-known Streetwear boutique and brand based in Indiana.. but they’re coming onto our street here in LA? GASP.

We were hanging out on Rosewood today and Matte (in the red hat) approached us with his girl Brett who helps him run DOPE. He introduced himself like a normal human being (trust me, a rarity in our scene) and warmly invited everyone back to their shop to drink and celebrate. I’d say that’s the first time that’s ever happened on Fairfax. Ever.

And so we gladly obliged. I got to know Matte a little bit – this kid’s only in his mid-20s but he’s hustled hard to get where he’s at. He put all his money into his first store, and now he’s doing it again with this shop in LA. He says he’s here on Fairfax to fill the void for a proper Streetwear venue in our community.

In pursuit of that mission, he’s definitely got all the right brands stocked. Publish and 10 Deep here…

some BBC there…

MALIN+GOETZ candles over there…

With HUF’s absence on the block, it’s nice to see a new home for Keith Hufnagel’s apparel here on the shelves of DOPE. There’s also Motivation and Leaders product, which is big for the midwest considering these two stores and brands are from Michigan and Chicago. Since DOPE’s from Indiana, one of their goals is to support their neck of the woods and give the Midwestern brands prominent floor space.

I like that they took the effort to build out a presentable Streetwear boutique with clean, minimal design – not all IKEA crazy.

And of course, you can find plenty of their inhouse label in-stock.

Welcome to the block, guys. Good luck and much respect on doing things your way.

Had enough incredible street art stories out of Los Angeles yet? I HAVEN’T.
Yesterday morning, I drove up to Santa Monica to catch the last of the controversial HEAL THE BAY house as it gasped it’s last breath. 150 panels by RISK and RETNA that read “RESTORE AND PROTECT THE WORLD’S OCEANS.” The project was done in secrecy without the neighborhood (or the city) knowing about it until it was unveiled. The house belongs to Adam Corlin who took it over from squatters and vagrants who had turned it into an eyesore. He saw the opportunity for art and a message, but the City apparently saw something negative, because they ordered its prompt removal. Bummer.
Oh p.s. if you’re feeling kinda angry about that, why don’t you go on over HERE and sign the petition to end the Mural Moratorium in LA?

London Fashion Week has already left quite a great impression with collections such as Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, Acne, and Christopher Kane leading the ranks as some of the most successful collections to hit the runways so far. Another fashion house that’s getting lots of attention is House of Holland. The eccentric and colorful designer took his collection to a new place with his first pair of jeans made by his brand instead of usually collaborating with Lee like in the past. The first look off the runway is a great way to define the entire collection; punk girls covered in pastels with bleached jeans and suspenders. The many creative ideas in the collection such as the bleached jeans, python suspenders and heels, and of course the schoolgirl kilts. Henry Holland, the designer explains the collection was inspired by photographer Gavin Watson’s photographs of skinheads and punks in the late 70′s and 80′s. Check out some of the best looks form the collection after the jump! Enjoy!

We’ve already showed you Wildfox‘s latest collection that hit the stores with a fun and carefree vibe thanks to the theme being associated with everything hippy-dippy. Wildfox has just released a video from the photoshoot which showcases the clothing on the ladies as they dance the night away. Be sure to check out the video above and also be sure to check out what items of Wildfox we are carrying right now HERE!
If you were in the Los Angeles area today and just happened to break your gaze away from your phone long enough to look up, you may have seen this.
For one hour starting at noon, SABER wrote across the sky circling downtown L.A. Aside from shouting out his crew, he called for an end to the mural moratorium the city has affronted on its citizens. Since graffiti and street art are being attacked by the bureaucrats, he took to the air, right over City Hall. Shouldn’t be much of a surprise since SABER had the world’s largest graffiti piece in the L.A. riverbanks over a decade ago.

Fellow artist RIME aka Jersey Joe with the assist.

And here we go…

Follow SABER on Twitter and stay informed on the situation regarding public art in Los Angeles HERE. Even we at The Hundreds have been hit by L.A.’s moratorium after REVOK and RISK painted our rooftop on our own building, and the LAPD demanded we take it down.

And to all the homeys who lived and died for their art:

A passer-by asked me who that was. I said, “That’s the world’s biggest graffiti artist right there.” He said, “Oh my God, that’s Banksy!?!”

This message has been brought to you by:

ART IS NOT A CRIME.

FIGHT BACK.
NOW!

The streets belong to the people. And for today, Los Angeles belongs to SABER.

Ben, Ashley, and I had a meeting at Paramount Pictures. Contrary to popular belief, the studios weren’t located on the pinnacle of a snow-capped mountain. In fact, Paramount is one of the last movie giants still standing in the heart of Hollywood.

The backlot is rich with cinematic history. Soundstage after soundstage of movie and television magic-making.

This is New York Street, built out to have the appearance of a New York street. In case you didn’t get the name.

Each soundstage lists some of the major productions that have been shot inside.

I wanna do a Family Ties collaboration so bad.
Little-known fact: Jon Hundreds was a recurring extra on Sister, Sister. #truestory

This is where they film Dr. Phil, but more importantly, it’s where they used to shoot Arsenio Hall. All our readers are like, “Arsenio what?”

Speaking of clueless, Ashley said something about a scene from Clueless shot here.

Prop from Up in the Air. Want.

It’s our friend Tamar’s birthday.

Can you tell?

This is the original movie poster for Benjamin Button that got canned.

Right outside is the actual Forrest Gump bench. Ben Hundreds is as Ben Hundreds does.

I was hopelessly giving up on music. And then, over the past 24 months, the post-Internet soundwave of young artists knocked me over. They’ve known not a world of mainstream radio and MTV videos. They’ve known not vinyl, lest cassettes, lest CDs. They know digital, they understand open-source, they comprehend music outside of record label dealings and retail store classifications. They are the today and tomorrow of music.
These are the sorts of leaders I’m talking about. Alexander Spit, Dom Kennedy, Lana Del Rey, Hanni El Khatib, Death Grips, Zoo Kid (or King Krule or whatever his name is now), and maybe most of all, Trash Talk.
“AWAKE,” the first video from hardcore band Trash Talk’s upcoming EP out October 11th. Pre-order the EP HERE.
